Responsable

Andréa Parmeggiani

Crédits : 5 ECTS

Objectives

  • Understand molecular motors and switches in the cell: biological structures and functions, mechanisms, experimental and theoretical study methods;
  • Understand modern experimental methods and their application in-vitro and in cellulor conditions;
  • Understand the underlying general physico-chemical principles of how biological macromolecules function;
  • Understand the impact of new microscopy and spectroscopy methods in biochemistry, biophysics, biology and biotechnology;
  • Analyze the impact of knowledge on individual molecules at cellular and tissular levels;
  • Identify the main areas of current development of these techniques and their future technical developments in biology and medicine.

Description

The course covers a wide range of topics in modern biophysics ranging from the study of single molecules up to cells and organisms. Topics are presented by specialists in the field, with a very transdisciplinary perspective. It is indeed important to realize that modern biology benefits from advanced concepts and non-invasive methods from different disciplines and in particular from physics. This course also provides new insights into topics in systems biology, biophysical approaches to epigenetics and new approaches to study molecular interactions.

Note

The course is also open to Master’s students in Physics and Engineering of Living Systems.
