MAM1GTNS Statistiques Appliquées à la Biologie – Applied Statistics in Biology

Responsable

Objectives

Choosing a relevant statistical tool and interpreting results are required skills for any biologist who plans to analyze their own data and to understand scientific literature.

The objective of this course is to explore the main methods and tools in biostatistics, through different concrete examples, using R: the Swiss army knife in Statistics and data mining.

Targeted skills with R:

  • Knowing how to handle and summarize datasets
  • Knowing how to use and interpret statistical tests
  • Knowing how to build and assess statistical models

Description

Description

This course covers three areas explored using R:

  • Descriptive statistics: using summary indicators and graphical representations
  • Inferential statistics: using statistical tests (comparing means, percentages…)
  • Statistical modeling: building and assessing multifactorial models

Note:

No initial statistical skills are needed. This course is not based on any mathematical formalism since it is a user’s course for biologists, not mathematicians.

Observation
